About the Event
To raise awareness and expand sales channels for Japanese Shochu and Awamori in Hong Kong, Consulate-General of Japan in Hong Kong and Shochu and Awamori (Hong Kong) Consortium under Japanese F&B Import Counsil are organising Shochu Awamori New Year’s Day Reception on “Day of Shochu and Awamori” (1st November, 2022).
Shochu is a distilled spirit made from various base ingredients (mainly sweet potatoes, barley, rice, brown sugar, and buckwheat) and koji, which mainly can be found in Kyushu Region. Awamori is a distilled spirit made with black koji and indica rice originated in Okinawa, Japan. Both Shochu and Awamori are the authentic spirit of Japan and have been in production over 500 years. They can be served as a range of temperature, pair well with a variety of mixers, and can be enjoy before, during and after a meal. 1st November has been established as the “Day of Shochu and Awamori”, as brewing preparations start in August or September, and one can enjoy a new brew of the current year by in and around 1st November.
During the Event, finger foods and cocktails using Fukuoka, Kumamoto, Miyazaki, Kagoshima, and Okinawa Prefectures’ ingredients will be served. Besides, a lecture on Shochu and Awamori, Discovering the Hidden Gem of Japan - Awamori & Shochu, will be given by Chandrakant Mohanty from Mizunara: The Library and Matteo Salvatore Ceravolo from Sake Central.

* Due to limited parking slots and the narrow road near the Venue, point-to-point transport services from the Peak Galleria to The Haystack will be arranged for the guests. Meeting time and place will be provided in the confirmation email sent to individual later.
